Apr. 1st, 2012 04:20 pmIt's the sound that wakes him up; after all, when he's tucked away in bed with Duck and there's nowhere pressing for him to be—which is all the time; Duck's the early bird—there's very little that can get him up. But sounds are wrong this morning, not the gentle hum of their appliances, or the silence and birdsong that he was used to before that, but the gentle wheeze and creak of hydraulics and gears.
He gives Duck a nudge, even though he suspects he's already awake. "What is that?" he said, like it's some fire-breathing beast that's invaded their space. For all he knows, it is.
